The German Match Play Championships, the Bavarian Championships of the AK 30
Another successful weekend for the Golf Club Valley comes to an end. The German Matchplay Championships, the Bavarian Championships of the AK 30 and the first match day of the 1st league AK50 took place with great participation of the Golf Club Valleys.
The Golf Club Lichtenau, located in Northern Bavaria, presented itself in very difficult conditions for the German Hole Play Championships due to the weather. In the beginning the players had to fight with snow, which then changed into strong wind and rain. In the final on Sunday the players could present their good game in sun and light wind.
In the lead was defending champion Chiara Horder at Golfclub Lichtenau. With her were Lilian Klug, Laurenz Baumgart and her brother, Florian Horder in the illustrious field, which was reduced to 32 players per gender due to pandemic regulations. The first round was played as a counting game qualification. Here Chiara and Florian managed to place among the eight best and thus played for the podium places. Laurenz Baumgart went on to play for 9th place after a play-off and Lillian Klug for 25th place.
The future US college student of Texas Tech, Chiara Horder won her first match against Emily Böhrer, her second match against the strong playing and later winner of the tournament Helen Briem Chiara lost with 2&1. So on the last day she only had the match for 3rd place, which she won against Fiona Liddell and thus won a strong bronze medal. Hellen Briem from Golf Club Stuttgart won against the number 6 of the amateur ranking list Paula Schulz Hanssen from Golf Club St. Leon Rot the title.
Chiara, who is just in between casually finishing her high school diploma, commented contentedly on her performance with "Am mega happy to start my 2021 season with a great 3rd place".
Lilian Klug got off to a rough start. For the likeable psychology student, this was her first singles tournament in a long time. In response to her qualifying round, the strong hole betting player sent all her competitors home with commanding scores of 2&1 , 3&2 and 7&5 on the following three days. Lilian is pleased with her performance, some of which were also significantly better scored (-4 after 13 holes) than in the qualification. She herself says "it was a lot of fun, despite some difficult conditions, but it was nice to see players from other clubs again". We are looking forward with her and to the 1st matchday of the 1st Bundesliga next week in St. Leon Rot.
Former youth national player Florian Horder managed to slip into the field of participants at the last moment. "The day before the first round came the call at 11 o'clock , that I am still moved into the field". He shone right away in the qualification with a 4-under par round. With this third place after the counting game, the Valleyer easily qualified for the final draw. In the following 3 final rounds, the business administration student from Munich had to compete against 3 men's national players. The first was none other than Jannik De Bruyn, the number 58 in the world. The latter defeated Florian in stormy weather with 6on4. On the second day, he was beaten by Laurenz Schiergen, the winner of the French Amateur and Team German player from St. Leon Rot, 3auf2 and was able to defeat him himself on the last day with 4auf3. Florian achieved with the last victory "a conciliatory end for an overall solid week" and finished with a great top 10 result and a 7th place.
